Phosphatidylserine Brief Introduction
 

Phosphatidylserine (PS), an acidic phospholipid that is a natural component of the brain neuronal membrane, known as the “smart nutrient” emerging after choline and “brain gold” DHA, has the highest PS content in the brain, accounting for 17.7%.
PS is one of the critical components of cell membrane phospholipids, accounting for 10% to 20% of phospholipids in the brains of mammals. PS exists in the inner side of the cell membrane and participates in the metabolic activities of the cell. Due to its strong lipophilicity, it can quickly enter the brain through the blood-brain barrier after absorption, to relieve vascular smooth muscle cells and increase blood supply to the mind.

What Foods Contain Phosphatidylserine?

There are many natural food sources you can obtain phosphatidylserine. Initial studies found that phosphatidylserine is present in the cow’s brain, but, for worrying risks of mad cow disease, did other reviews, it found phosphatidylserine also present in soybeans, organ meats, deep-sea fish, etc.
Currently, the highest dietary source is soy lecithin, which is about 5,900 milligrams phosphatidylserine in per 100grams.

Phosphatidylserine Dosage

Although a clear dose has not determined for Phosphatidylserine, the analysis of different countries regulations and market shows that the optimal treatment of PS is 100-300 mg/day.

PS Safety and Side Effects

The phosphatidylserine supplement does not appear to have any side effects. Initially, people are anxious about using phosphatidylserine sourced from cow brain, for risk of mad cow disease.
At present, phosphatidylserine usually sourced from soy lecithin, which not associated with the same risks.
Please use it within the recommended daily dose. Excessive use may result in gas, stomach upset, trouble sleeping.
